Hello GoodBye Show 3 September 2011: Trogons and Benjamin Shaw

Hot, sweaty, burnt and blistered!

deXter Bentley peels himself off his clammy sun lounger to return to air with Hello GoodBye, midday every Saturday lunchtime from the 3rd September.

With live music stretching from the ominous, introverted alchemy of Benjamin Shaw, to the outer reaches of neo-psychedelic reverie with Trogons.

Trogons’ soaring vocals and chiming guitars recall the late ’80s psychedelia of Slowdive, The Cocteau Twins and This Mortal Coil. Both tuneful and droneful, the London-based four-piece are regulars on the capital’s live circuit and have notched up a number of prestigious slots. Today they make their Resonance live debut and, by rights, tomorrow they’ll be signed to 4AD!
Their forthcoming 7’’ single, ‘Awakenings’ will be released on X Ray Recordings.

Benjamin Shaw’s debut album, ‘There’s Always Hope, There’s Always Cabernet’ is due for release on November 21st on the Audio Anti-Hero imprint.. The album’s impenetrable Lo-Fi Megasoul will either propel him up into the stratosphere or deep down into the abyss. Either way, it’ll be great with dissonance and majesty smothering your principles.

If you’re not tuned in then you’re not listening!

Hello GoodBye Show 4 June 2011: Serafina Steer and Lime-Headed Dog

This is the final episode of Hello GoodBye before we take our well earned Summer holiday!

This afternoon we welcome the return of two of the capital’s finest perpetrators of contemporary, abstract pop music; Serafina Steer & Lime Headed Dog.

Plus, we also have Matthew Reynolds & Hannah from the Ukulele emporium The Duke Of Uke discussing the fact that their shop is currently under threat of closure.

Multi-instrumentalist Serafina Steer was tutored by the living legend and sitar genius, Ravi Shankar. Serafina’s sublime song writing skills, spellbinding voice and supreme dexterity on the harp have justifiably found her gaining huge critical acclaim from an ever expanding group of admirers.

Lime Headed Dog combine abstract, cut and paste, free-form pop with surreal lyrical aplomb, the result of which is a vaguely unsettling and yet altogether thrilling and infectious wall of sound.

Tune in between noon and 1.30pm on 104.4 FM in Central London or on-line via: www.resonancefm.com

Skinjobs is the current art-music project for the long standing collaborative partnership between the artist Adam Latham and former Xerox Teens (aka XX Teens) singer Richard Cash. Well-turned out and industrious (check out their merchandising!) troubadours Skinjobs play bespoke one-song gigs, often mimed and at far-flung venues, car parks, forests and art galleries across Europe. Who knows what they will play for us in session today? Probably not even they do…

Hello GoodBye Show 21 May 2011: The Mekons and Irmin Schmidt

Post-punk iconoclasts The Mekons join us to perform live in session on Resonance FM this Saturday lunchtime.

With a new album (Ancient & Modern) set for imminent release plus a documentary in the pipeline by filmmaker Jon Angio (Revenge of The Mekons), the collective of artists and musicians that comprise The Mekons are thankfully showing no signs of shipping back to Venus. In 1978 The Mekons’ debut single ‘Never Been In A Riot’, was denied distribution by Rough Trade after they deemed it too lo-fi and scratchy for the common or garden post-punk punter, yet despite this ignominious beginning the group are currently in their 5th decade and still going strong. Tune in to hear their distinct brand of barnstorming, politically charged, country-punk music.

Plus an interview with Irmin Schmidt, ex-keyboard player of CAN who talks about Lost Tapes, the upcoming boxed set of unreleased archive recordings from the Krautrock legends and his own soundtrack recordings.

Hello GoodBye Show 14 May 2011: The Wave Pictures and Broken Shoulder

Returning to the show once more are the scintillating London based trio The Wave Pictures, while making a debut on the show we also have Broken Shoulder.

The Wave Pictures are a prolific London based trio who play pop music that is infused with a healthy, heady rush of youthful abandon. Frontman David Tattershall has a distinctly idiosyncratic stream of consciousness quality to his lyrics that is both melodic and playful. The group conjure up a sound that is slightly reminiscent of the New York new wave scene of the late ‘70’s (with both early Television and Talking Heads springing to mind.) The band are currently undertaking a nationwide tour of the UK to promote their LP ‘Beer In The Breakers’ (Moshi Moshi)

Broken Shoulder is the aching pseudonym of Neil Debnam from Fighting Kites. Conceived when he was out of action with a broken shoulder, Debnam lent in the darker shade of his influences; electronic and noise records from the likes of Tim Hecker, Ashtray Navigations, Core Of The Coalman and a wealth of Japanese experimental/improvisational music (Chihei Hatakeyama, Taj Mahal Travellers, Himeno Sayaka). His debut LP “Broken Shoulderrr” (Audio Anti-Hero) is a Lo-Tron collection of noises, ditties and misplaced notes sewn together by fuzz and feedback. It’s a unique record that evolves with each listen and has a shelf life longer than UHT milk.
