Midnight Sex Talk: Infidelity

Midnight Sex Talk – Infidelity

We really should have done this show as an all-night charity marathon, there’s so much to talk about. It would be like They Shoot Horses, Don’t They? but no-one would get tired. As usual, however, Midnight Sex Talk will be giving you the essence of the subject in just 60 high-quality minutes.

Have you played away? Have you discovered your other half at it? How did you find out? Was it tell-tale bruises, stubble burn or a simple stray email? Do you think infidelity is even an issue? Is monogamy a pointless social construct that puts needless pressure on people? Or is it a valuable rule to arrange your life around?

Helping things along in the studio is journalist Piers Hernu, who can be spotted doing all kinds of loveable rogue-type things around the darker parts of the global village. We’ve also got an interview with Stephen Green of Christian Voice. Enough said!

Midnight Sex Talk is broadcast on alternate Sunday nights, from 11.30pm-12.30am, on Resonance 104.4 FM. More info about us at

Midnight Sex Talk – Internet Censorship

Midnight Sex Talk – Internet Censorship

This week we’re looking at the Scottish Executive’s consultation paper on the possession of what they call ‘extreme pornographic images’.

If what they’re suggesting becomes law, it could set us back decades in terms of free speech, as well as cause endless misery to those who are exploring their sexuality, not to mention artists.

Our guests this week are lobbyist Demolition Red from Backlash, and campaigner/adventurer UKRudeGirl”.

Midnight Sex Talk: Pain & Pleasure

Midnight Sex Talk – Pain & Pleasure

BDSM, CP, topping, bottoming – what does all this mean to you? Do you think that the first two are network protocols, and that the others must be cookery terms, even though you’ve never heard Nigella mention them? Or are you a fully fledged member of your local community, and a regular attendee of the kind of club that the tabloids send undercover reporters to, (even though they already know what they’re going to write)?

Do you think that inflicting physical pain on someone, (or having it done to you) however consensually, is simply torture by another name? Or is it the ultimate transfer of power, and the only true way to work out your own needs and desires?

Helping us untangle it all are Monkey and Mistress Vamp from Unfettered, which hosts the annual Kinkfest.

Midnight Sex Talk – Media Massacre

Midnight Sex Talk – Media Massacre!
We had to turn on our own sooner or later, or at least give it a darn good going-over. In the company of Al Needham, live on the show for the first time, Midnight Sex Talk is taking a long hard look at the mainstream media’s influence over our sexual lives. Are celebrity shagfests, and tit jobs for girlfriends offered as prizes, taking us where we don’t really want to go? Or are magazines right in claiming, like certain rappers, that they’re simply reflecting back what we’ve been thinking all along? Do you believe that women’s magazines are really promoting sexual liberation, or just another set of rules for keeping your man?
Midnight Sex Talk is broadcast on alternate Sunday nights, from 11.30pm-12.30am, on Resonance 104.4 FM. More info about us here.

Midnight Sex Talk – Sex and Drugs

Midnight Sex Talk – Sex & Drugs Midnight Sex Talk links up with The Good Drugs Guide (broadcast on Resonance FM every Thursday, from 9-9.30pm), for a seasonal look at most people’s two favourite pastimes, and how they interact with each other. Before you deny everything, we’re not just talking about illegal stuff. From Viagra to wolfbagging via GHB, we’ve covered it all, (OK, as much as we can in an hour), with the help of fearless and highly knowledgeable chemical crusaders Piers Gibbon and David McCandless. Plus: Live drug experiment! Tune in to see who gets wood first!

Midnight Sex Talk – Dirty Old Town

Midnight Sex Talk delves deep into London’s seamy past: stews, molly houses and the clap. It was just like today, really, but with different clothing, and without the latex condoms and antibiotics.

You can hear presenter and Voiceover King Piers Gibbon reading out some historical sleaze; Matthew Glamorre talking about Polari, the the gay slang that grew out of C18 thieves-and-theatre culture; and, by coincidence, our first interview with John Constable about Cross Bones in Southwark.

If that wasn’t enough, we’ve got Hallie Rubenhold talking about her book on Harris’s List, the gentleman consumer’s guide to the prostitutes of eighteenth century London.

Midnight Sex Talk – Cross Bones Graveyard

We said we’d go back, and we did. Midnight Sex Talk returned to Cross Bones on Monday night for a proper celebration of the outcast dead, with much singing, drinking and beating of drums. We then processed from the Ship, in Borough Road, (said to be the most haunted pub in the area) to the site in Red Cross Way.

As anyone might have expected, the dark side of Old Southwark slipped out through the cracks when some of the local feral children appeared, (including a few who were old enough to know better), threw fireworks at our 60-strong party and then punched somebody on the nose. Such is Halloween…

The most moving part of the ceremony was when we read out the names of those buried there, and then hung tributes on the gate.

In the studio we’ve got Mistress of Ceremonies Jahnet Delight, and founding visionary John Constable, to tell us all about this neglected historical site.

Midnight Sex Talk: Friends

Your friends have more influence over your sex life than you realise. On the good side, they can weed out the munters and beasts (at least when things get really bad), provide a body part to cry on when you get dumped, and keep the relationship gene pool open by inviting you to their parties.

On the less good side, they either sleep with your intended or ostracise them, gossip about you, or turn on you in unexpected ways when your sexual behaviour violates the unspoken law of The Group.

Have you ever slept with a friend and regretted it? Has a friend ever done the dirty with your lover, in secret? Have you started hiding your new partners from your friends, because you just know they’ll disapprove? The inimitable Al Needham will be sharing his thoughts on these ever-present dilemmas.

Midnight Sex Talk: Babies – Do We Really Need Them?

You’d think society would finally have moved on from putting pressure on women to reproduce, and would now lay off all attempts at forced decision-making on their behalf, preferring to use its moral energy for things like stopping wars. But no.

Whatever a woman does, it’s wrong. There’s much ranting about perceived overbreeding by (usually working class) teenage girls, but you’ll hear just as many accusations of ‘selfishness’, (definition, please), on the part of middle class, professional women who’ve got no intention of having kids. It’s funny how no-one ever truly ties these arguments together, isn’t it? Because the word eugenics just might come trickling out of the woodwork.

There’s still a taboo about not wanting to have children, due to a lingering misogyny that says that a woman who is not a mother is somehow incomplete, and has not fulfilled her true role in life. It’s even worse for those who’ve already had children, and regret it. The writer Lionel Shriver has done more than anyone else to open up this debate, in her prizewinning novel We Need To Talk About Kevin. The story behind how this book finally came to be published in the UK illustrates her point even more firmly, and depressingly.

The flipside of all this is the legions of women rushing to have IVF when there are thousands of babies and children who are desperately in need of a home. Are we still so dynastically obsessed?

In the studio we’ve got a healthcare ethicist to unravel the cat’s cradle of arguments around the issue of IVF and reproductive choice; we’ll be hearing from Glenda, who is happily married with zero children; and Dr Ben is returning to help us understand the medical side of it all.
