Starting a month about the links between comics and literature, Alex Fitch looks at an example of a series of books that are being adapted for comics and comics that are being continued as novels. Scots novelist Denise Mina discusses her adaptation of Stieg Larsson’s Millennium trilogy as a series of graphic novels for DC Comics, starting with The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo, and writer / artist John Higgins explains the transition of his SF / horror comic series Razorjack into a series of books written by himself and other authors.

Apostille emerged from the wayward pop-centric impulses of Please guitarist Michael Kasparis. What began as a self-taught class in inclusive exploration has bloomed into a self-erasing exercise in broadcasting; an adrenalin-veined, ecstatic language that sweeps up a mess of electronics into a mound of emotive discharge. As direct as possible all the time.
Bob Meyer bridges the great Blues divide between South London and the Deep South.
By day, Bob is a busy London truck driver but it is at night that he really kicks into gear, presenting and producing Bob’s Folk Show on Radio Wey and Folk Radio UK.
He organized and hosted the London Folk and Roots Festival in 2012 and this June he is organizing The British Folk Radio Week.
Bob’s debut album ‘All This Is That’ is due for re-release this coming May through Malicious Damage Records.
Graham Boosey started Little Penguin when he wanted to play at a new local electronica night in his hometown of Southend on Sea, so he picked up his Game Boy Camera and began composing his own brand of experimental-soundscape, noise and drone music.

Artist Sandra Cross in conversation with Jonny Trunk about the MMs Bar Recordings: Making weekly rail trips between London and Leicester, Cross taped hundreds of buffet announcements, editing them into this 30-minute piece. Focusing on the small, usually unvarying list of fare generates a maddeningly mundane musicality. Seven minutes in, the unprecedented unavailability of hot drinks seems catastrophic. Different announcements, with vastly different emphasis and emotional resonances, can sound indefatigably enthusiastic about the Quavers/water combos, or audibly defeated. Marking the announcements as individual tracks might have offered infinite random variations, but it is fitting that we endure this album as the artist intended. Another episode of delicious sounds from Poland (but not only ). This time we get to listen to Pixel Klange sextet (Bettina Wenzel – voice, Hans w. Koch – electronics, Joker Nies – electrononics, field recordings, circuit bending, Gerard Lebik – electronics, Piotr Damasiewicz – trumpet, piano, Wojciech Romanowski – drums) live in Cologne 2012 and Erase Quartet (Micha? Trela-drums, Max Mucha-bass, Jakub Mielcarek-bass, Gerard Lebik-sax).
In second half of the show we are introduced to a unique promotional and educational tool for exploratory music in Krakow: Audiomat (http://au.diom.at/pl/) and some of its content.
AUDIOMAT is an educational and promotional device in a form of a vending machine containing music only. AUDIOMAT presents works of selected artists, especially those living in Krakow or related to Audio Art Festival and the Polish Society for Electroacoustic Music. Each “title” is prepared in a limited edition of 10-15 copies and contents of AUDIOMAT are being constantly changed and rotated. Each media bears a biographical note and a set of links, which redirect the listener to more information and examples of each artist’s work. We hope that with the help of AUDIOMAT we can raise wider interest in the works of selected artists and make the audience more familiar with the idea that this kind of creativity can be – despite the common belief – widely and easily available.

As we enter Doctor Who’s 50th anniversary year, Reality Check investigates a radio drama series tangentially connected to the franchise. The Scarifyers is a horror / black comedy series, with new instalments broadcast each year on BBC Radio 4 Extra (formerly BBC 7) and released on CD and concern the adventures of an elderly horror writer and his retired police sidekick as they investigate supernatural crimes and occurrences in 1950s Britain. Alex Fitch talks to series writer and producer Simon Barnard and CD cover artist Garen Ewing about the genre crossing narrative, their love of old SF and horror and the use of iconic actors in new serialised roles in a series whose cast includes Terry Molloy (Doctor Who‘s Davros), Nicholas Courtney (Doctor Who‘s Brigadier Lethbridge-Stewart) and David Warner (Time Bandits et al.). The supporting cast includes actors famous for roles in Doctor Who and other Sci-Fi dramas such as Gabriel Woolf, Philip Madoc, Gareth David-Lloyd and Brian Blessed.

Hooting Yard: Advice Regarding Eggs.
When the rest of the family returns from the pantry, each in turn must use skill, judgement, and knowledge of ship construction to declare whether the parlour is now a poop deck or an orlop deck. Those who decide correctly are treated to a “feast at the captain’s table”, that is, they are each allowed to go back to the pantry and choose a snack from among the snack items on the pantry shelves. Those who decide incorrectly are “tossed into the sea”, that is, they must clamber out of the open window and wait shivering in the garden until the next round.
