Destination London: Writing Cities from Eastern Europe

Destination London was a series of public events hosted by UCL’s School of Slavonic and East European Studies (SSEES) during autumn 2009 which explored east European perspectives on London and ‘the west’ and different approaches to writing about the city. This programme and podcasts document aspects of these Destination London events. It was produced by Resonance with postgraduate students from UCL who participated in a two day radio skills workshop and then collaborated with Resonance producers Sarah Nicol-Seldon and Mark Robins to edit and shape the material. The programme includes recordings of a panel discussion held at UCL on 23 October with speakers Kapka Kassabova, Vesna Mari?, Borivoj Radakovi?, Vitali Vitaliev, Andrea Pisac and Iain Sinclair, chaired by Tony White, Leverhulme Trust writer in residence at SSEES. Destination London marked the completion of the AHRC ‘East Looks West’ travel writing project, which researched, developed resources and published work on East European travel writing from the 16th century to the present day. The events were Supported under the Beacons for Public Engagement programme, funded by the UK funding councils, Research Councils UK and the Wellcome Trust. The radio skills workshops and this programme for Resonance FM were developed by Resonance and supported by UCL School of Slavonic and East European Studies with the Roberts Skills Initiative Fund.
