Panel Borders: The Phoenix

In the first of a new series of Panel Borders, we start a month of shows looking at comic book anthologies with a recording of a panel discussion of the children’s comic The Phoenix. Creators Daniel Hartwell (writer: ‘Pirates of the Pangaea’), Neill Cameron (artist: ‘Pirates of the Pangaea’), Adam Murphy (‘Corpse Talk’), Robin Etherington (writer: ‘Long Gone Don’) and Patrice Aggs (‘Blimpville’) discuss creating serialised comics for children and how the title rose from the ashes of The DFC – hosted by David O’Connell (‘Tozo: The Public Servant’) and recorded live at Caption Festival, Oxford.

Wavelength – Ed Baxter on Artists in Ruins (Destruction in Art Part 11)

The Disabled List – Day 8 and 9

After light winds caused the cancellation of the final day in Weymouth, Dorset our trip to the sailing saw no sport.

We reflect on the experience of travelling through the area, feature the sounds of the seaside and a couple of ambassadors, appointed to promote the area for the Games.

The Disabled List – Day 7

We began with Tracey McCillen, the CEO of the UK Sports Association for People with a Learning Disability, to talk about their 8 year ban from the Paralympics. We also hear from Sir Phillip Craven. IPC President, on his perception of those events.

Also featuring:

Wheelchair tennis from Eton Manor. One of only two bespoke Paralympic venues. Athletes competing included Nicholas Taylor of the USA and Peter Norfolk of the UK.

The Disabled List – Day 6

Swimming at the Aquatics Centre (from the evening of Day 5) and a brief reflection on Dow’s involvement in the Paralympics and crowd reactions in general to politics.

That is followed by reflections or a trip to a temporary shooting and archery venue at the Royal Artillery Barracks in Woolwich. The original venue was the National Shooting Centre at Bisley in Surrey.
